Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of advanced R&D equipment for thin-film processing at our Milpitas facility. You will own mechanical modules, mentor engineers, and drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure safe, high-performance systems.

You’ll contribute to design reviews, interface with other subsystems, and report progress to stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. Equity and growth opportunities included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent industrial experience).
• 8+ years of experience with 7+ years in senior mechanical design/lead roles.
• Ability to conceive novel solutions for complex systems in challenging environments.
• 3D modeling expertise; SolidWorks and NX preferred.
• Experience with COMSOL, ANSYS or other FEA tools.
• Ability to select and qualify vendors for components or subsystems.
• Demonstrated leadership in direct or matrix structures.
• Strong verbal and written communication and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of advanced R&D equipment for thin-film processing.
• Lead design reviews for mechanical subsystems.
• Maintain interfaces with other engineering subsystems.
• Report progress to stakeholders.
