Job summary

Midjourney Medical is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in San Francisco to lead end-to-end electromechanical hardware design, from precision components to large-scale structures and motion systems. You will own mechanical subsystems, prototype in the shop, run tests, and collaborate with research, electrical and software teams to ship robust hardware on aggressive timelines.

This hands-on role rewards initiative, deep technical curiosity, and the ability to turn ambiguous projects into

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and shipping electromechanical hardware.
  • Track record in mechanism design with real-world reliability.
  • Experience designing larger-scale structures (frames, gantries, enclosures).
  • Proficiency in CAD for design, optimization, and system integration.
  • Strong rapid-prototyping experience in a shop environment.
  • Background in R&D environments with ambiguous problems and self-direction.

Responsibilities

  • Own parts of the mechanical systems end to end — structures, mechanisms, and electromechanical integration
  • Design large-scale structures: frames, weldments, enclosures, and support systems with attention to stiffness, manufacturability, and serviceability
  • Design mechanisms: linkages, motion stages, actuation systems for precise positioning and articulation
  • Integrate transducers, electronics, cabling, and thermal management into large physical systems
  • Perform engineering analysis (tolerance stack-ups, structural/FEA, mechanism kinematics) to de-risk designs before hardware
  • Build and test relentlessly — 3D printing, rapid prototyping, hands-on fabrication
  • Select parts and materials for system-level integration, balancing performance, cost, and lead time
  • Drive projects independently from concept through validation with a cross-disciplinary team
