Qualifications

• 10+ years for Senior Mechanical Engineer level.
• Power plant experience strongly preferred.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical reliability, condition assessment, troubleshooting, and maintenance for combined-cycle generation assets.
• Plan and support mechanical minor outage scope, including field execution, contractor coordination, issue resolution, and follow-through.
• Provide engineering support for major maintenance activities, capital projects, drawing and specification reviews, and construction acceptance activities.
• Partner with plant leadership on maintenance planning, lifecycle strategies, budgets, performance analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Support integration of new assets into long-term maintenance and reliability programs.
• Provide outage-season support, including spring outage coverage, and assist other Oglethorpe Power generation assets as business needs arise.

Role Snapshot

Oglethorpe Power is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the CT Fleet and major maintenance work at our Talbot Energy Facility in Columbus, Georgia. This is a hands‑on, plant‑facing role for an experienced engineer who can help strengthen mechanical reliability, support outage execution, and serve as a technical resource for plant leadership, maintenance teams, contractors, and vendors.

Candidates near Columbus are strongly preferred, and relocation assistance is available for the right candidate. The selected candidate will receive hands‑on training and support from an experienced member of the team.

What You'll Do

• Support mechanical reliability, condition assessment, troubleshooting, and preventive/predictive maintenance for combined‑cycle generation assets.
• Plan and support mechanical minor outage scope, including field execution, contractor coordination, issue resolution, and follow‑through.
• Provide engineering support for major maintenance activities, capital projects, drawing and specification reviews, and construction acceptance activities.
• Partner with plant leadership on maintenance planning, lifecycle strategies, budgets, performance analysis, and reliability improvement initiatives.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• For the Mechanical Engineer level: typically 5–10 years of progressive engineering or technical experience supporting power generation, industrial facilities, heavy rotating equipment, or related infrastructure.
• For the Senior Mechanical Engineer level: typically 10 or more years of progressive engineering or technical experience supporting power generation, industrial facilities, heavy rotating equipment, or related infrastructure.
• Power plant experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting outage planning and execution, major maintenance, contractor oversight, and/or capital projects is highly desirable.
• EIT certification or PE license is preferred.
• Valid driver's license meeting Oglethorpe Power's Driver Qualification Program requirements.

Skills & Knowledge

• Experience with V machines is required; familiarity with Siemens V84.2 and 5000F machines is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of turbine technology, combined‑cycle generation, and power‑generation industry standards and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and equipment documentation.
• Strong technical and business analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively with plant leadership, maintenance personnel, engineering firms, construction partners, and maintenance contractors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

This role includes extensive field work in an operating power‑generation environment, periodic work outside normal business hours, and up to 25% travel.
