Job summary

Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN, seeks a Staff Engineer for South Coal Gas in the Acetyl Manufacturing Department. You will serve as a mechanical technical expert, gain deep area knowledge, and drive safety, reliability and process improvements across production, maintenance and engineering teams.

This long-term role (3–5 years) focuses on equipment like high‑pressure valves, piping and rotating machinery.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 3+ years of mechanical experience, preferably with rotating equipment and critical reliability assets (high pressure valves, piping).

Responsibilities

• Champion Zero Incident Mindset by engaging with team members.
• Be a focal point on asset integrity program within the department.
• Provide daily technical support for production processes, resolving plant mechanical issues and repairs.
• Maintain awareness of Manufacturing concerns through daily interactions with staff, operators and supervision.
• Develop and implement capital projects (cSCPs & SERs) within the department.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Development and Operations to meet production, reliability and maintenance objectives.
• Drive reliability and other improvements within the department.
• Lead Manufacturing efforts to meet business/site initiatives with safety focus.
• Interface with Plant Engineering on projects involving rotating/critical equipment.
• Participate in area maintenance planning and identify improvements.
• Develop, collaborate and prioritize a project portfolio; coordinate resources for implementation.
• Provide MOC process oversight and back-up for supervision/manager.
• Provide weekend duty coverage (avg 4 weeks/year) after onboarding.
