About The Role

CMTA Columbus is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 7 -10+ years of experience in consulting engineering. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of engineers to design energy-efficient mechanical systems for buildings across various industries. We’re looking for a self-motivated professional with a strong technical background who enjoys working directly with clients and contributing to all phases of a project.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design HVAC and mechanical systems for energy-efficient buildings.
  2. Manage projects from conception to completion, ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
  3. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
  4. Attend meetings with clients, owners, and architects to develop project requirements.
  5. Provide guidance to staff engineers on best practices for energy-efficient design.
  6. Review contractor submittals (shop drawings, specifications) for compliance with contract documents.
  7. Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques and procedures for project tasks.
  8. Research and analyze customer design proposals, manuals, and standards to determine feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
  9. Specify system components or modify designs to meet engineering and performance specifications.
  10. Collaborate with engineers and project personnel to resolve design issues and provide technical expertise.
  11. Provide mentoring and leadership to less experienced staff and provide technical reviews of co-workers projects.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. 7- 10+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer designing HVAC systems in consulting engineering.
  2. EIT certification or PE license required.
  3. Strong experience with MEP design and HVAC systems (central utility plants).
  4. Proficiency in Revit.
  5. Experience in project management and direct client interactions.

Preferred Skills

  1. Expertise in plumbing, energy-efficient design, and sustainable building practices.
  2. Knowledge of construction processes and submittal reviews.
  3. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide technical feedback to design engineers.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
