The organization operates in a fast-paced, collaborative setting where engineers work closely across disciplines and have meaningful ownership of designs from concept through production support. They are currently looking to add a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/Defense) to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$95k - $125k
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/Defense) to join an Engineering Design team developing mission-critical aerospace and defense electronics hardware. This role leads mechanical design efforts from concept through release, supports both New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering initiatives, and partners cross-functionally to deliver reliable, manufacturable products.
Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/Defense):
- Lead conceptual and detailed mechanical design aligned with applicable aerospace and defense product requirements.
- Support NPI and sustaining engineering initiatives.
- Conduct DFMEA and failure analysis and implement design improvements to reduce risk and improve reliability.
- Develop renderings, simulation models, and effort estimates to support proposals and new business activities.
- Help refine engineering processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to achieve system-level objectives.
- Independently own projects of varying size and complexity, driving execution through completion.
- Participate in customer design reviews and qualification test activities (up to 10% travel).
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/Defense):
- 4+ years of mechanical design experience.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD and PDM (or equivalent).
- Experience with simulation tools (Flow, Thermal, Vibration, or similar).
- Working knowledge of PCB and circuit card assemblies.
- Experience transitioning designs to manufacturing with a DFM, DFA, and DFT mindset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a small-company environment and wearing multiple hats.
- Must meet U.S. Person requirements (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder) due to controlled data and defense compliance regulations.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace/Defense):
- Electro-mechanical packaging experience is preferred.
- Exposure to aerospace and defense standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
- Experience within the electronics industry.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
