Job summary

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Dallas with ten or more years of experience to help grow our mechanical practice. A licensed PE is required, and the candidate will lead major healthcare, federal, higher education, and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate will mentor engineers, lead design of HVAC, plumbing, and central utility systems, ensure code compliance, support business development, and travel as needed to expand Coffman's Texas presence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering (required)
• Minimum of 10 years of experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of IBC, IMC, IECC, IPC, and NFPA.
• Fully proficient in ASHRAE standards.

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with ten or more years of experience to help grow and strengthen our Dallas office. We are looking for a licensed PE with experience delivering complex healthcare, federal, higher education, and industrial projects who is excited to lead major project pursuits, mentor engineers, and help expand our mechanical practice across Texas and the surrounding region.

The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader, helping expand our capabilities in federal, education, mission critical/data center, healthcare, and industrial markets. This individual will lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems, mentor developing engineers, support business development efforts, and help grow the office's technical depth. Through strong leadership and engineering expertise, they will play a key role in advancing Coffman's reputation for quality, innovation, and exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead mechanical engineer for complex healthcare, federal, higher education, industrial, and mission critical projects.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for HVAC, plumbing, and central utility system design from concept through construction.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client-specific criteria, including IBC, IMC, IPC, IECC, ASHRAE, NFPA, FGI, UFC, and VA design requirements.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Perform and oversee engineering calculations, system analyses, equipment selection, and basis of design development.
• Manage project scope, budget, schedule, staffing, and technical performance.
• Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site observations, and commissioning efforts.
• Mentor mechanical engineers, designers, and EITs to foster technical excellence and professional growth.
• Establish and promote best practices, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives within the mechanical engineering team.
• Support business development activities, including client engagement, proposal development, interviews, and strategic pursuits.
• Expand the Dallas office's presence in healthcare, federal, higher education, and industrial markets through technical expertise and relationship building.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships that contribute to repeat business and long-term growth.
• Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and developing future engineering talent.
• Contribute to the strategic growth and leadership of the Dallas office and mechanical engineering practice.
• Ability to travel

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree (B.S) in Mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering (required)
• Minimum of 10 years of experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of IBC, IMC, IECC, IPC, and NFPA.
• Fully proficient in ASHRAE standards.

Preferred Experience

• Healthcare facility design experience, including hospitals, clinics, laboratories, or medical office buildings.
• Federal project experience with VA, USACE, DoD, GSA, or other government agencies.
• Higher education campus infrastructure and facility design experience.
• Industrial manufacturing, process, or mission critical facility experience.
• Experience leading projects exceeding $10M construction value.
• Experience mentoring engineers and technically overseeing multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with Load Calculation Software
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
• Experience with energy modeling.

This is not a remote position. This role is based in Dallas, TX and requires in-person attendance. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the office.
