Job summary

SOCOTEC Engineering in Brooklyn, NY seeks a Senior Engineer with 5+ years in laboratory testing for the Forensics Group. You will conduct materials and mechanical testing, field monitoring, and non-destructive evaluations of structures, coordinating tasks and reporting results.

Ideal candidates have advanced degrees and strong communication skills, with PE licensure desirable and a track record in project management and new business development. This is a full-time on-site role in Brooklyn.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials or related engineering field with familiarity in mechanical and material testing, instrumentation and data analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with mechanical/structural failures, sensor systems, and materials characterization is desirable.
• Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain licensure is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, plan, and conduct standard and custom mechanical and material testing in the laboratory, including tensile, Charpy V-notch, leak/pressure, and long-term durability tests.
• Lead and perform field testing and monitoring, including sensor installation and data acquisition.
• Prepare written test reports with data analysis and interpretation of results.
• Conduct field and site inspections.
• Manage projects, pursue new business opportunities, and communicate with staff, clients and stakeholders.
• Complete duties as assigned by management.

Job Description

SOCOTEC Engineering is currently seeking a Senior Engineer with more than 5 years’ experience in laboratory testing for our Forensics Group based at the laboratory facility in Brooklyn, New York. This position requires working with our team to conduct materials and mechanical testing, field monitoring, and non-destructive evaluations of structures. Candidates with less experience, but exceptional background is encouraged to apply.

The candidate will be responsible for:

• Coordinating, planning, and conducting standard and custom mechanical and material testing in the laboratory, including tensile, Charpy V-notch, leak/pressure, long-term durability testing, and others
• Leading and completing field testing and monitoring including installation of sensors, deploying data acquisition systems, data collection and analysis
• Preparation of written reports of tests including analysis of data and interpretation of results
• Conducting field and site inspections
• Managing projects, pursuing new business opportunities, and communicating effectively with colleagues, technical and administrative staff, clients and other stakeholders
• Completing all duties as assigned by their manager

Qualifications

The following qualifications and skills are required for this position:

• Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials or other relevant fields of engineering, with familiarity/expertise in mechanical and material testing, instrumentation and data analysis. A masters’ degree is required at the minimum, although exceptional candidates with bachelors’ degree and relevant work experience will be considered
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Specialized engineering knowledge and experience in mechanical and structural failures, sensor systems and setups, and materials characterization techniques is desired
• Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain professional licensure is desired
