Job description

About Noon Energy

Noon Energy is a leader in long-duration energy storage, developing battery technology that stores energy by splitting CO₂, eliminating reliance on rare metals. We are scaling from megawatt (MW) to gigawatt (GW) production of our energy storage products.

Our vision is a fully renewable future powered by nature-inspired energy storage. Our compact battery technology delivers 100–1,000+ hours of storage using air-abundant molecules rather than rare metals, enabling affordable, on-demand renewable electricity.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 7–10 years of hands‑on experience to lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and hardware products. This role spans concept through production and requires strong analytical capability, technical ownership, and the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
Design & Development
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
  • Own the full product lifecycle, including 3D modeling, detailed drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, BOM generation, and equipment specifications.
  • Design and integrate complex process systems incorporating instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure sensors, and flow meters.
  • Perform engineering analyses including stress, thermal, fluid, and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
  • Support the development of mechanical systems for demanding high‑temperature operating environments.
Documentation & Engineering Standards
  • Create and maintain technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation in accordance with applicable industry standards and safety requirements.
  • Apply GD&T principles and ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, providing technical guidance to the broader engineering team.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, product, and other engineering teams throughout the full development cycle.
  • Support prototyping, testing, design validation, and production‑readiness activities.
  • Interface with vendors and suppliers on component and equipment selection, technical evaluations, specifications, and procurement.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and resolve mechanical design issues through structured root‑cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
  • Drive improvements in product performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Incorporate testing, analysis, and cross‑functional feedback into iterative design improvements.

These responsibilities reflect the role’s intended ownership across mechanical design, process systems, engineering analysis, documentation, vendors, testing, and manufacturability.

Qualifications
Required
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 7–10 years of relevant industry experience, with demonstrated ownership of products or mechanical systems from concept through production.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, technical communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with energy systems, chemical processing, long‑duration energy storage, or advanced hardware startups.
  • Experience designing complex process systems involving instrumentation and vendor‑supplied equipment.
  • Experience with high‑temperature mechanical systems and materials.

The first six required qualifications are directly aligned with the existing Noon JD. The process-system and high‑temperature preferences come from the more detailed Job Profile, which specifically identifies instrumentation integration and approximately 750°C high‑temperature design using superalloys and ceramics.

Location

On‑site in Mountain View, California. This role is expected to work primarily from Noon Energy’s Mountain View location, or another future Bay Area location.

Compensation

Base salary: $180,000–$205,000 annually, with a target range of approximately $190,000–$195,000, plus a meaningful early‑stage equity grant.

Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, skills, and other relevant factors.

Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
  • Parental leave
  • On‑site team lunches

The stated salary range and benefits are consistent with the current JD.
