Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience; 8 years of product design experience preferred.
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD software: Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo.
  • Design experience with structural enclosures, mechanical assemblies, HVAC systems, piping, firefighting systems, and power generation.
  • Experience in BOM creation and Change Notice processes.
  • Design experience with electrical components or equipment within the energy industry is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 10-25%.

  • Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7 AM–5 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to designers and engineers in design activities.
  • Review drawings and specs for proper application within assemblies.
  • Support design of mechanical components and sub-systems for power/low voltage products.
  • Perform complex design calculations to ensure project requirements.
  • Produce documentation: mechanical layouts, component prints, assemblies, compliance docs.
  • Interact with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, IE on a regular basis.
  • Participate in design meetings and reviews.
  • Create 2D prints and 3D models for parts and assemblies.
  • Help develop BOM structures for modular products.
  • Prepare BOMs and change notices to release components and assemblies.
  • Support costing to meet project pricing targets.
  • Assist in creation of technical manuals for operation and maintenance.
  • Provide prototype and production support.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for integration into systems.
  • Support service, aftermarket, and installation teams.

This position will also work with other disciplines within the organization to understand customer and market requirements, design products to be easy to both manufacture and assemble, support products as they go through the Product Development Process, and support service and aftermarket needs.This position will work within the Design Engineering team and need to coordinate their work with other individuals to meet project requirements, timelines, and goals. The ability to understand high-level requirements and create detail-level requirements and designs will be key to meeting project objectives. This position will require an understanding of drawing standards, Change Notice practices, and the ability to create Bills of Materials based on their design output.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentExperience: Minimum 5 years of experience, 8 years of product design experience preferredWorking knowledge in 2D/3D CAD design software (Inventor, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo)Design experience with structural enclosures, mechanical assemblies, HVAC systems, mechanical piping, firefighting systems, and power generationProblem solving skills, root cause analysis, and corrective action experienceExperience in Bill of Material creation and Change Notice processesDesign experience in electrical components or equipment within the energy industry preferredDesign experience with programming languages and controls software preferredManufacturing and field support experience preferredProven ability to lead designers and other engineers preferredTravel: 10-25%Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. Works a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProvide guidance to designers and less experienced engineers in design activitiesReviews technical drawings and mechanical specifications to ensure proper application of products within mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.Supports the design of mechanical components and sub-systems for power/low voltage products including component selection, general layouts, assembly design and installation.Performs complex design calculations to ensure design compliance with project requirements or reviews others work for correctness.Studies and understands related government and industry standards that govern the products being developed.Produce relevant documentation needed to meet project goals, mechanical layouts, mechanical component prints, mechanical assemblies, and compliance documents.Interacts with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Industrial Engineering staff on a regular basis.Participate and present technical information during design meetings or reviews.Supports the creation of 2D prints and 3D models for piece parts components.Supports the creation of complex 3D layouts of top-level and sub-level assemblies.Help develop product Bill of Material structures to allow for modularity and configurability of products.Prepare Bills of Materials and prepare Change Notices to release components and assemblies.Support costing activities to ensure pricing targets are achieved at the project level.Supports the creation of technical manuals for operation and maintenance of related products.Self-checks own work to ensure accuracy to established drawing and design specifications and standards.Provide technical assistance for prototype and pilot builds along with production support as needed.Works with suppliers to integrate various components into higher level system designs.Supports service, aftermarket, and installation teams as needed.Performs other related duties as required and assigned.The job description and responsibilities described are intended to provide guidelines for job expectations and the employees’ ability to perform the position described.
