Job summary

Verrus, a nationally recognized engineering and advisory firm, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep healthcare facility design expertise to join their Houston team. This client-facing role leads mechanical design from concept through construction, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with architects and clinical stakeholders on compliant systems.

Ideal candidates hold a PE, bring 10+ years of mechanical building systems experience (5+ in healthcare), and are proficient in Revit

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical focus).
  • 10+ years of mechanical building systems design experience, with at least 5 years focused on healthcare facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and controls in healthcare environments.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with IMC, IBC, IPC, ASHRAE 170, FGI Guidelines, and NFPA 99.
  • LEED certification and Design-Build experience a plus.

  • Design HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems
  • Define project scope, develop fee estimates, and manage budgets and schedules
  • Collaborate with architects, medical planners, and clinical stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems with healthcare operations
  • Support business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships
  • Mentor junior engineers and deliver training on healthcare-specific codes and design strategies
