Job summary

fairlife LLC in Goodyear, AZ is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead reliability and maintenance for the plant’s machines. You will design, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive programs, coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations, and oversee start-up and commissioning with external contractors.

You will drive continuous improvement, apply Lean, Six Sigma, and GMP practices, create detailed manufacturing instructions, and mentor technicians while collaborating

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another related field.
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt accreditation is a plus.
• Experience in high-speed dairy manufacturing and packaging.

Responsibilities

• Perform design of experiments (DOE) to redesign systems and develop sustainable solutions.
• Maintain and update machine center documentation (schematics, manuals, PI&D).
• Source parts via schematics and spare parts manuals; manage inventory.
• Create work orders and PMs in D365; coordinate parts for scopes.
• Schedule overhauls and coordinate downtime with teams.
• Drive process improvements; present to Engineering.
• Lead technicians and teach PM practices; ensure safety programs.
• Launch large capital projects from design to ownership.
• Drive MTBF/MTTR improvements and apply GMP and 5S.

Job description

Job Purpose

The Senior Mechanical Engineer continuously evaluates the plant machines for reliability and effectiveness. They work closely with engineering team members, maintenance, and operations, and provide day‑to‑day technical support on all aspects of plant machine center operations. The engineer plans and schedules preventative and predictive maintenance, acts as the plant liaison for new system start‑up and commissioning by outside control contractors and system integrators, and ensures proper transfer of documented PLC program changes, manuals, and training.

Responsibilities

• Perform design of experiments (DOE) to redesign systems creating chronic issues and develop sustainable solutions.
• Maintain and update all documentation for machine centers, as needed (schematics, manuals, PI&D).
• Source parts through schematics, spare parts manual, and parts attendant.
• Make recommendations on spare parts for internal inventory.
• Create work orders and PMs through D365 and add all parts required for the scope of work to be performed.
• Help coordinate and facilitate the scheduling of overhauls.
• Drive process improvements and present to the Engineering Department.
• Schedule downtime repairs with packaging, maintenance, and project manager/supervisors.
• Work together with Operations and utilize all resources to eliminate downtime.
• Demonstrate leadership skills by teaching technicians how to perform technician PMs.
• Participate in plant safety, health, and environmental programs.
• Drive improvements through the CI processes and playbook that Goodyear has established.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing and engineering team to define engineering acceptance standards and specifications based on the voice of the customer.
• Validate and characterize new processes, equipment, and fixtures for production implementation focused on damage‑free.
• Create detailed manufacturing instructions to document engineering critical characteristics.
• Collaborate with the Quality, Manufacturing, and Maintenance Managers to reduce and eliminate downtime contained on the single agenda.
• Perform BDA and RCAs for issues that arise from the production floor.
• Incorporate Lean Manufacturing best practices and work in a culture focused on continuous improvement.
• Drive GMP and 5S initiatives.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills with cognitive actions.
• Understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business.
• Launch and drive large capital projects from design recommendations to complete ownership.
• Drive MTBF to be best in class.
• Drive MTTR to be best in class.

Skills / Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another related field.

Working Conditions

• Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming products in terms of food safety and quality until corrected.
