Job summary

Powell is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Chicago area to lead design and development of mechanical systems. You will mentor engineers, oversee production, and ensure designs meet safety and quality standards while coordinating with sales and customers.

The role requires 4–8 years in manufacturing engineering, strong CAD skills, and a solid understanding of power systems. On-site work in a dynamic environment with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related area.
  • Minimum 4-8 years of experience in an Engineering role within manufacturing industry.
  • Basic understanding of power systems is preferred.
  • Advanced drafting/CAD skills.
  • Proficient with mechanical design.

  • Design standard jobs with guidance.
  • Read and interpret customer job specifications.

Job Description

A Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the production of mechanical systems and components. They lead engineering teams, conduct research, analyze data, and provide technical expertise to ensure the successful implementation of projects. They also collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that mechanical designs meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Additionally, Senior Mechanical Engineers may be involved in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, as well as mentoring and guiding junior engineers.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements
  • Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to interact on a regular basis with shop personnel.
  • Able to apply product knowledge and technical skills to solve simple application problems independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to order materials electronically.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.
  • Able to apply (told by others what it means and which code) ANSI and other as it applies to the day-to-day activity.
  • Ability to apply industry standards as applicable to job and product.
  • Able to design one product in the most economical way while achieving quality.
Working & Environmental Conditions

The employee typically performs duties in a normal office environment. There will be some work in a shop environment and exposure to the elements of our shop. Additionally there may be some work performed in the field with exposure to construction sites or active customer facilities.
