Job summary

Bascom Hunter in Frederick, MD is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, development, and qualification of rugged aerospace mechanical and electromechanical products across the lifecycle.

You will collaborate with Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Program Management to meet military and aerospace performance, environmental, and reliability requirements. 7+ years' experience and SolidWorks/ANSYS proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience in aerospace/defense/high-reliability products.
• Experience designing complex M/E assemblies from concept to production.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks (3D CAD) and ANSYS Mechanical (FEA).
• Strong understanding of structural analysis, fatigue, vibration, tolerance analysis, materials, fasteners, and environmental sealing.
• Experience creating manufacturing drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of aerospace mechanical and electromechanical products from concept through production.
• Design rugged enclosures, thermal management hardware, structural assemblies, and precision components.
• Perform trade studies balancing performance, weight, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
• Develop margins of safety and correlate models with test results.
• Perform structural analysis using calculations and FEA to evaluate stress, vibration, fatigue, and thermal effects.
• Incorporate EMI/EMC, grounding, shielding, environmental sealing, and thermal management.
