Job summary

Spur Design in Oklahoma City is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to drive the design of mechanical and plumbing systems from concept through construction. You will mentor junior designers, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help deliver thoughtful, compliant solutions while upholding Spur Design’s standards and client expectations.

This full-time role emphasizes developing detailed drawings in Revit MEP, applying codes, and maintaining library systems.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited four-year engineering degree or equivalent training.
  • Experience in mechanical building systems and construction specifications.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of Owner-Architect and Owner-Contractor agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical/plumbing design and documentation on Spur Design projects.
  • Develop detailed drawings and specifications from schematic to final construction documents.
  • Apply codes, guidelines, and Spur Design standards to deliver quality work.
  • Manage multiple projects with proactive prioritization and timekeeping.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior designers.
  • Travel for site visits and collaborations as needed.

Job description

Join Spur Design as a Senior Mechanical Designer and play a key role in designing innovative mechanical and plumbing systems for projects that positively impact the communities we serve. In this role, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor emerging designers, and help deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions from concept through construction.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering design and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices including site investigations, contract documentation, and the occasional construction administration.
  • Develop detailed Mechanical/Plumbing Design drawings and specifications from the schematic stage to complete construction documents utilizing Revit MEP or other modeling software.
  • Perform Mechanical/Plumbing Engineering tasks including, but not limited to, production of contract documents, specifications, design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and submission packaging.
  • Be able to understand and apply codes, design guidelines, engineering judgement, company standards, and industry best practices related to personal growth, development, and providing outstanding service to Spur’s clients.
  • Manage prioritizing project work pro-actively and provide program management within a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Take responsibility for time management of assigned jobs. Keep an accurate daily record of the time spent on each assigned job.
  • Maintain and update office systems including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools.
  • Travel for, but not limited to, site visits, professional collaborations, and satellite office visits.
  • Work with the Mechanical Director and Mechanical design team to contribute toward the improvement of Spur Design’s methods and processes.
  • Attend office meetings and report on a regular basis regarding the progress of individual projects.
  • Support requests for assistance related to marketing, project interviews, level of effort estimates, and project proposals.
  • Strives to ask questions, learn next steps, and for continued growth and knowledge in the field.
  • At all times be a good steward for Spur both inside and outside the office.
Qualifications
  • 20+ yrs Design Experience in the construction industry or related field
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited four-year college or university in the Engineering Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or related field, actual field experience with direct correlation, or training through a vo-tech program.
  • 22+ yrs Design Experience in the construction industry or related field
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited four-year college or university in the Engineering Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or related field, actual field experience with direct correlation, or training through a vo-tech program
  • Non-EIT, No Certifications
  • Have the knowledge, understanding, and ability to navigate construction specifications and documents.
  • Understand and interpret construction plans and drawings.
  • Have the knowledge of mechanical building systems and guidelines
  • Have the knowledge of the Owner-Architect Agreement, Owner-Contractor Agreement, and Architect-Consultant Agreements
  • Balances project deadlines and is responsive to project changes
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with various software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Bluebeam, etc.

  • Life insurance in the amount of up to $100,000 or 2x annual base salary (whichever is less) is provided at no charge.
  • Health Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Dental Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Vision Insurance. employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Retirement benefits include matching 401k contributions of 1-for-1 matching up to 3% and 1-for-2 matching up to 5%, with a maximum match of 4% for a 5% employee contribution. This plan is a “safe harbor” eligible plan and, subsequently, no vesting period is required past initial eligibility requirements.
  • Spur Design also offers reimbursement of training and professional organization dues or fees with prior approval by ownership.
