Job summary

Spur Design seeks an eager Mechanical Engineer in Training to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You will design and document mechanical building systems, work with licensed engineers, and gain mentorship while making meaningful project contributions.

Responsibilities include drafting, creating construction documents, and supporting project coordination. A FE exam pass and ABET-accredited degree are expected; growth opportunities and mentorship are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; ABET-accredited program.
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction documents and drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical design and documentation on Spur Design projects from site investigations to contract documents.
  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings using Revit MEP or similar tools and prepare specifications.
  • Produce design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and submission packages.
  • Apply codes and company standards to deliver quality service and support growth.

Job description

Spur Design is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Training (EIT) who is ready to grow their career in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Working alongside licensed engineers, you'll help design and document mechanical building systems while gaining valuable experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on every project.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Mechanical engineering design and documentation on projects within Spur Design including site investigations, drafting, design, contract documents, and occasional construction administration
  • Develop detailed Mechanical drawings and specifications from schematic design through construction documents using Revit MEP or other modeling software
  • Perform Mechanical engineering tasks including, but not limited to, production of contract documents, specifications, drafting drawings, design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and combining of submission packages.
  • Apply codes, design guidelines, engineering judgment, company standards, and industry best practices to support personal growth and deliver quality service to Spur clients
  • Manage project priorities and contribute to program coordination within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Monitor time spent on assigned projects and maintain accurate daily records
  • Maintain and update office systems including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools
  • Travel for site visits, professional coordination, and visits to satellite offices
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Director and design team to improve Spur Design’s methods and processes.
  • Attend office meetings and report regularly on project progress
  • Support marketing efforts, project interviews, level-of-effort estimates, and proposal development
  • Seek opportunities to ask questions, learn next steps, and grow professionally
  • Demonstrate professionalism and represents Spur with integrity in all settings
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience under a Licensed Engineer in a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in an ABET accredited four‑year college or university in Engineering Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or a related field
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Working knowledge of construction specifications and documentation
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents and drawings
  • Foundational knowledge of architectural building systems and accessibility guidelines
  • Familiarity with Owner-Architect Agreements, Owner-Contractor Agreements, and Architect-Consultant Agreements
  • Possess strong organizational skills and high level of follow-through
  • Strong time management skills‑ must be able to balance deadlines, responsiveness, and maintain the quality of both
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail
  • Proficiency with various software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Bluebeam, etc.

  • Life insurance in the amount of up to $100,000 or 2x annual base salary (whichever is less) is provided at no charge.
  • Health Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Dental Insurance, employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Vision Insurance. employer covers 100% of employee and family premiums
  • Retirement benefits include matching 401k contributions of 1-for-1 matching up to 3% and 1-for-2 matching up to 5%, with a maximum match of 4% for a 5% employee contribution. This plan is a “safe harbor” eligible plan and, subsequently, no vesting period is required past initial eligibility requirements.
  • Spur Design also offers reimbursement of training and professional organization dues or fees with prior approval by ownership.
