Job summary

Innovate seeks a Senior Mechanical Designer in Houston to design and lay out material handling systems for diverse projects. You will produce 2D/3D layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, and BOMs while serving as a technical resource within a 20–30 person Texas team.

You will learn the systems, standards, and customer base from a long-serving designer during a structured handover, supporting fabrication and installation with project engineers and suppliers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years as mechanical designer or drafter on industrial systems.
• Strong AutoCAD skills.
• Fabrication experience is preferred; know how steel and pipe get built.
• Pneumatic conveying or bulk material handling experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API codes and experience with SAP or similar ERP system.

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out material handling systems for customer projects (silos, vessels, steel structures, piping, ductwork, rail car loading equipment).
• Produce accurate 2D/3D layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, fabrication details, and complex BOMs.
• Review drawings and guide junior designers within a 20–30 person Texas team.
• Support fabrication, assembly and installation, collaborating with project engineers, suppliers and clients.

I'm working with a global leader in bulk solids handling and pneumatic conveying systems on a Senior Mechanical Designer hire for their Houston team. This is a rare opportunity. Their long-serving designer is retiring after nearly three decades, and they're planning a proper handover, so you'll learn the systems, standards and customer base from the person who built them.

What you'll do

• Design and lay out material handling systems for customer projects, including silos, vessels, steel structures, piping, ductwork and rail car loading equipment.
• Produce accurate 2D/3D layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, fabrication details and complex BOMs (bills of materials).
• Be a go-to technical resource in a 20–30 person Texas team, reviewing drawings and guiding junior designers.
• Support fabrication, assembly and installation, working closely with project engineers, suppliers and clients.

What they're looking for

• 10+ years as a mechanical designer or drafter on industrial systems.
• Strong AutoCAD skills are essential.
• Fabrication experience is highly desirable, and you should know how steel and pipe actually get built.
