Job summary

Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Test Equipment, to design powertrain test setups and support equipment maintenance. You will guide technicians, manage inventory, and define specs for new test equipment to enable testing that supports product engineering.

The role requires 5+ years in automotive powertrain testing, a engineering degree, strong communication, and knowledge of transmissions, hydraulics, and gears. Travel is limited.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive powertrain testing.
• Bachelor’s in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ME, MET, EE, EET) or equivalent.
• Proficiency in oral and written business communication.
• Strong knowledge of automatic transmission operation, hydraulics, and gears.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Solid mechanical aptitude and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design powertrain test setups to meet Product Engineering needs.
• Support Facility Technicians in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
• Maintain inventory of test equipment (dynos, inertia wheels, hydraulic and cooling systems).
• Develop specifications for new test equipment purchases.
• Direct work of Technicians and Skilled Trades to execute test setups and repairs.
• Assist Test Technicians in troubleshooting equipment faults.
