Job summary

Honda South Carolina Manufacturing seeks an Experienced Steering System Hardware Design Engineer to design steering hardware parts and systems that meet schedules and deliver performance, quality, reliability, and value to Honda's customers.

You will lead junior engineers, coordinate with design, test, factory, purchasing, and suppliers; create schedules; review costs; and release 2D drawings using CATIA and MS Office. One remote day per week may be possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in Mechanical or Automotive engineering.
• 5+ years in automotive component or design, with management experience.
• CAD capability in CATIA V5/V6 and familiarity with kinematics.
• Proficient MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and oversee junior engineers for steering design constellations.
• Plan and coordinate activities with design, test, factory, purchasing and suppliers.
• Create schedules with milestones and trigger points; share with related groups.
• Review costs to ensure design goals are met and propose alternatives.
• Model parts and systems in 3D and release 2D drawings/specs using CATIA & MS Office.
• Proactively share progress with function members, PL, and TE; ensure direction.

Job Purpose

• Experienced Steering System Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for designing Steering Hardware parts and systems that meet targeted schedules and deliver outstanding performance, quality, reliability, value, and enjoyment to Honda’s customers

Key Accountabilities

• Lead, Mentor, and Oversee junior engineers assigned for steering design PICs (person-in-charge) as a chief or group leader.
• Achieve Performance, Quality, Cost and Delivery Targets by:
  • Thinking critically & applying fundamental engineering principles to complex targets.
  • Plan & coordinate activities with other design, test, factory, purchasing and suppliers.
  • Create own schedules with milestones and trigger points, and share with related groups
  • Lead meeting and/or give constructive thoughts along with keeping track of open items
  • Review costs to ensure it meets the design intentions and provide solutions if it does not.
  • Model parts and systems in 3D and release 2D drawings and specifications using CATIA & MS office.
• Proactively share development progress with your function members, PL, and TE to confirm proper direction, successful completion or raise awareness of concerns.
• Complete all required training and share best practices with your peers. Create Value & Innovation through studying technical trends and new technology, consider more efficient processes to support your work, make proposals that create new value for your department, Honda or our customers and confirm application of development strategies for your area of responsibility.

Qualifications, Experience, And Skills

• Must have a college-level Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical or Automotive engineering.
• At least 5 or more years of relevant experience in automotive component or engineering project management component and system design experience, or closely related (keywords - chassis, steering, EPS (electronic power steering), gearbox, steering solumn, kinematics).
• Must have demonstrable automotive industry sector experience.
• CAD software (CATIA V5/V6)
  • Kinematics or closely related.
• Should have good Microsoft Office Suite of applications skills (PowerPoint, Excel etc).

Workstyle

• This is an onsite job. One remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
