Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer for Starlink consumer hardware in Austin. You will own hardware from concept to high-volume production, drive system optimization, and ensure reliable performance across environments.

You will also design production lines, tooling, and automation to enable fast ramp and scalable manufacturing. The role emphasizes multidisciplinary design, manufacturability, and collaboration with supply chain and partner teams to deliver world‑class consumer

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
• 5+ years in mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, or manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Own Starlink consumer hardware from conceptual design through high volume production and public launch.
• Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization.
• Test and iterate on products to enable high field reliability and performance in all environments and use cases.
• Design and develop the production lines that manufacture your product, including robot end-effector design, process development, control system design, automation programming, and more.
• Refine the production system to create high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes.
• Establish an efficient product lifecycle starting in the supply chain through final integration that balances cost, complexity, and quality; collaborate with partner teams to design and realize an efficient in-house production line.
