A leading imaging company is seeking a Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer to work on innovative metrology instrument products. This hybrid position requires expertise in mechanical design and a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in SolidWorks and FEA, with responsibilities spanning from concept to production while providing mentorship to peers.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical/industrial engineering experience, preference for 10 years.
• Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M standards.
• Experience with system error budgets and tolerance stack-ups.
• Experience with injection-molded parts design.
• FEA using SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS.
• ASME Y14.5M GD&T drawing standards.
• Design of machined, sheet-metal, and cast parts.
• Tolerance stack-ups and system error budgets.

Responsibilities

• Support the design of new metrology instrument products.
• Conduct feasibility studies using engineering principles and FEA software.

Join to apply for the Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer role at FARO Technologies. FARO is an imaging company that uses digital 3D measurement technologies to help customers make better decisions faster and more accurately. We work with leading aerospace and automotive companies such as SpaceX, NASA, Tesla, and Volvo, as well as major builders and public safety professionals. This is a hybrid position based out of our Exton, PA or Lake Mary, FL office, requiring 2‑3 days per week onsite.

How you will make a difference @ FARO

• Key individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.
• Support projects from concept to production in close coordination with related departments and vendors.
• Serve as subject‑matter expert for product external design, including industrial design, plastic‑molded part design and user interfaces.
• Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software.
• Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements.
• Perform hands‑on assembly, testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met.
• Analyze and refine high‑level requirements.
• Develop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques.
• Build BOMs for manufacturing and assembly.
• Guide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions.
• Serve as a mentor to other mechanical engineers and designers in areas of expertise.

This position requires

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical/industrial engineering experience; preference for 10 years.
• Mechanical design using SolidWorks or a similar CAD package.
• Surface modeling using SolidWorks or a similar CAD package.
• Design of injection‑molded parts.
• Industrial design and evaluation of products for improved UI/UX.
• Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Design of machined, sheet‑metal and cast parts.
• System error budgets and tolerance stack‑ups.
• Finite element analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS.
