Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Project Engineer to own the planning, readiness, and testing oversight for mechanical systems on our facilities projects. You will ensure installations, inspections, and balancing meet performance and safety standards while coordinating with vendors, design engineers, and controls teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of mechanical commissioning, field engineering, startup, testing, and related experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the mechanical commissioning scope, readiness criteria, inspection strategy, and discipline test execution plan.
• Review commissioning specifications, inspection checklists, and test requirements for commissionability and risk.
• Coordinate mechanical QA/QC inspections with contractors and vendor field/test engineers, including installation checks and pre-functional readiness.
• Own mechanical commissioning procedure development and review, including equipment startup, functional testing, and controls verification.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors on factory/site acceptance requirements and documentation packages.
• Support readiness and execution for cooling, ventilation, hydronic, pumping, and other mechanical systems.
• Lead discipline-level review of test results, deficiencies, corrective actions, and retest requirements.
• Maintain mechanical commissioning dashboards and status inputs for risk, resources, and readiness.
• Partner with Electrical Commissioning Lead on cross-discipline dependencies and integrated testing sequences.
• Support turnover by confirming documentation and test records are complete and usable by operations.
