Title: Senior Mechanical & Automation Engineer – Cell & Gene Therapy
Location: Providence, RI (Hybrid – 3 days onsite; Boston + Rhode Island)

This is a high-visibility engineering role supporting a first-in-class cell and gene therapy manufacturing program focused on transforming treatment for rare hematologic diseases. The position is responsible for the design, development, and scale-up of custom automated manufacturing equipment, supporting the full lifecycle from early concept through commercial deployment in a GMP-regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Own hands-on mechanical and automation equipment design from concept → FAT/SAT → production deployment
- Lead mechanical integration of robotics, single-use systems, conveyors, AGVs/AMRs, pumps, and valves
- Design and support aseptic, GMP-compliant automation solutions for cell & gene therapy manufacturing
- Collaborate closely with controls engineers, vendors, R&D, quality, and manufacturing teams
- Support equipment scale-up, technology transfer, and commercialization efforts
- Participate in vendor management, design reviews, risk assessments, and validation activities
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in automation equipment development within pharma or biotech manufacturing
- Strong mechanical design background (SolidWorks preferred)
- Hands-on experience with single-use systems and manufacturing scale-up programs
- Solid understanding of aseptic design principles and GMP requirements
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
- Strong communication skills and experience working on cross-functional teams
Compensation

• Estimated hourly range: $75–$80/hr W2
Final rate within this range will be based on skills, experience, and interview results
