Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Mechanic A to lead fleet maintenance, mentor junior technicians, and ensure equipment stays on the rental ready line. You will diagnose engines, hydraulics and electrical systems, perform major repairs, and manage service calls as needed.

The role emphasizes safety, thorough paperwork, and collaboration with the shop lead to deliver timely repairs and quality workmanship across a large equipment fleet.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
• Ownership of a sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a consistent preventive maintenance schedule for all Herc-owned fleet at your branch.
• Operate and test equipment to ensure it passes Herc Rentals quality and efficiency standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all Herc fleet equipment and trucks independently.
• Diagnose engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
• Perform major repairs to maintain fleet equipment using diagnostic tools and hand tools independently.
• Enter and review work orders and complete part ordering via fleet management system.
• Assist shop lead with customer damage estimates and repairs.
• Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment.
• Take service calls when shop lead is absent and dispatch Field Service Mechanic to ensure repairs are completed timely.
• Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner.
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair log.
• Assist in training lower-level mechanics while taking direction from the shop lead.
• Follow all company procedures and protocols.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
