Job summary

United Launch Alliance seeks a Laboratory Scientist to perform analytical chemistry on fuels, propellants, and related materials at CCSFS in Cape Canaveral. Role includes coordinating testing, reporting results, and equipment support in a mission-critical environment.

The position requires a B.S. in Chemistry, 6+ years hands-on lab experience, and ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance. Onsite duties apply with a strong emphasis on safety and quality processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or similar field.
• Minimum 6+ years of day-to-day hands-on experience in chemistry lab setting.
• Experience with GC, FT-IR, Optical Microscope, gas-moisture analyzer, ICP, viscometer, and flash point analyzer.
• Experience with analytical chemistry test method development and instrument troubleshooting.
• Experience with chemical analysis per Military, NASA and ASTM specifications.
• Comfortable working with compressed flammable and oxidizing gases as analysis media.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to qualify for a DoD Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support launch-related testing.
• Conduct testing and evaluate results for mission critical test specimens.
• Coordinate specimens, test plans and operational media sampling with site-supporting laboratories, review results for completeness, and interpret results.
• Write laboratory test reports and report test results to internal customers.
• Day-to-day laboratory work includes quantitative chemical analysis of fuels and propellants, wet chemistry, microscopy, particle counting and cleanliness verification.
• Provide calibration and troubleshooting for analytical chemistry equipment.
• Conduct perishable materials shelf-life extension testing.
• Conduct part and material failure analysis investigations and propose corrective actions.
• Review discrepant parts and materials to identify root causes and implement preventative actions.
