Job summary

Copeland’s Corporate Materials Engineering team in Sidney, Ohio, seeks a Senior Materials Engineer to drive metallurgical investigations, sample preparation, and analytical testing. You will lead root-cause analyses, coordinate with operations, and mentor junior staff in metallurgical techniques to ensure robust corrective actions.

The position emphasizes hands-on lab work, compatibility with safety standards, and collaboration with global teams to improve material quality and product

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Metallurgy or closely related field (advanced degree a plus).
• 10+ years of progressive experience in metallurgical engineering in manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Hands-on experience with SEM, optical microscopy, metallograph, and hardness testing equipment.
• Experience with failure analysis methodologies and laboratory equipment troubleshooting.
• Excellent technical writing and reporting skills; cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical samples for analysis per lab standards.
• Conduct SEM, XRF, optical microscopy, and hardness testing measurements.
• Lead and support root-cause analyses for material failures.
• Mentor junior engineers on metallurgical techniques and best practices.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and suppliers to resolve material issues.
