Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced contamination control engineer to support spacecraft integration, ground support equipment, and cleanroom operations in Colorado. You will develop contamination control plans, certify cleanliness, and coordinate testing across development, preflight, and launch phases.

The role requires extensive experience in contamination analysis, aerospace materials, and coordination with design and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Must have a B.S. in a related aerospace field and ability to interpret system requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in clean rooms, contamination control, analysis, and spacecraft integration
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM/ISO standards and contamination control practices
  • Ability to develop customized cleaning requirements for complex hardware
  • Experience leading design and manufacturing teams in aerospace environments
  • Capability to prepare specifications and test reports and analyze contamination transfer

Job description

Provide guidance and expertise for spacecraft integration, ground support equipment, spacecraft launch activities, and cleanroom operations
Coordinate contamination requirements and documentation across development, preflight preparation, mission, and post-flight phases
Develop test plans to collect and analyze particulate and molecular contamination
Support cleaning processes, inspections, and hardware and operational verifications
Interface with design engineers on contamination control inputs to hardware design
Review manufacturing work instructions for cleanliness levels throughout the build process
Develop, review, and coordinate contamination control plans, test plans, procedures, cleanroom training, and material and process specifications
Quantify cleanliness levels required for space hardware and define procedures for fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, launch, and operations
Develop hardware cleanliness certification methodology across the project lifecycle per IEST-STD-CC1246
Ensure compliance with contamination measurement, control, and reduction policies and standards
Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers
Provide consultation on contamination, coatings, thermal coatings applications, material property characterization, and coatings flight qualification

Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Physics, Material Sciences and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related aerospace background or field of study
  • Ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions
  • 8+ years’ experience in clean rooms, contamination control, analysis, and spacecraft integration
  • Demonstrated technical depth in cleaning and contamination control
  • Knowledge of related ASTM and ISO standards
  • Ability to develop customized cleaning requirements and techniques for complex hardware
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with aerospace materials and process engineering disciplines, including metals, composites, adhesives, bonding, cleaning, failure analysis, manufacturing operations, and quality control concepts
  • Experience leading design and manufacturing teams in an aerospace environment
  • Ability to prepare specifications and test reports
  • Experience analyzing and predicting particulate and molecular contamination transfer
  • Ability to receive and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance
