Job summary

Dematic is hiring a Solution Design Project Engineer to lead design teams and manage large-scale material handling projects. The role focuses on mechanical design, machine controls, warehouse software, and customer operations, with responsibilities spanning requirements, concepting, and cost estimation.

The position requires 5+ years in material handling or related fields, strong leadership, and travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent
5+ years in material handling, warehouse automation, controls engineering, or complex systems engineering
Background in mechatronics, systems, controls, application, or industrial engineering
Strong leadership and cross-functional coordination abilities
Experience interpreting customer requirements and leading solution development
Experience with PLC control systems and controls architecture development
Understanding of WMS/WCS software, system integration, and machine-to-host interfaces
Experience with conveyor and sortation technologies
Up to 10% travel.

Responsibilities

Review requirements and develop executable material handling and automation concepts.
Direct team in producing 3D models and proposal drawings to attain concept freeze.
Generate material lists, project scope summaries, and technical proposals.
Identify control architectures and specify interfaces.
Prepare operation descriptions and evaluate vendor proposals.
Lead cost breakouts and value-engineering to optimize system performance and cost.
Own engineering deliverables through quotation and solution build phases.
