Job description

We are excited to announce that the Excess Casualty Market team within IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Market Facing Underwriter.

Working with wholesale partners, a successful candidate will provide the right balance of speed to market coupled with coverage and pricing expertise on excess casualty business.

Priority consideration for individuals with a proven and profitable track record with wholesale brokers building a book of middle-market accounts (over $40,000) with low frequency and moderate severity exposures. We will consider candidates with significantly more than five years’ experience. The level and title of the role will reflect the selected individual's knowledge, skills, and experience.

This position can work from IAT’s Office in the Midwest and Northeast. For the right candidate, other IAT locations, including remote, can be considered for highly qualified candidates. The hybrid schedule reflects our values (thinking and acting like an owner, collaboration, and teamwork) as it requires working from the office with colleagues and other disciplines Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working remotely on Thursday and Friday. Occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities:
  1. Underwriting:
    • Underwrite and produce profitable business within the authority granted and consistent with company goals.
    • Maintain agency relationships, develop new relationships and recognize when to cease a relationship, contributing to amicable resolutions as necessary.
    • Adhere to company underwriting guidelines, processes, tools, authority levels, and regulatory requirements in risk analysis and decision-making.
    • Evaluate information such as applications, inspection reports, loss data, financial data, and third-party information to make risk/reward decisions.
  2. Communication:
    • Communicate effectively through spoken, written, and electronic means.
    • Demonstrate understanding of products and services.
  3. Customer Service:
    • Provide prompt and courteous responses to internal and external customers.
    • Engage with distribution channels to market capabilities and identify new opportunities.
  4. Focus on Goals:
    • Use metrics and data to improve performance.
    • Understand market trends and competitors.
  5. Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience or nine years of relevant commercial insurance experience.
  • Knowledge of Excess and Surplus lines.
  • Ability to apply loss development and analysis concepts for optimal pricing.
  • Creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance to meet objectives.
  • Agency management experience.
  • Strong math, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with computer programs, internet-based tools, and spreadsheets.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without future VISA sponsorship.

Preferred to Have:

  • Wholesale surplus lines experience.
  • Industry designations like CPCU, ARM, AU.
  • INS21, 22, 23 or equivalent certifications.
  • Eight or more years of commercial insurance experience.
