Job Description

FMC International is seeking a highly skilled Senior Maritime Surveyor and Consultant to join our expert team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting surveys and technical assessments on maritime vessels and facilities both in the US and internationally. You will assess compliance with global and national maritime regulations including SOLAS, MARPOL, and USCG COFR requirements. FMC seeks an experienced professional who can work independently and lead others with integrity. You will interact with ship crews, the U.S. Coast Guard, legal entities, and maritime authorities, representing FMC International professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct onboard surveys and inspections to ensure vessels meet regulatory, safety, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate vessel structures, machinery, safety systems, and documentation; provide expert recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, identify areas for improvement, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Advise on technical and legal matters using your expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and USCG requirements.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and provide guidance on corrective measures.
  • Represent FMC International professionally in all interactions with clients and authorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and industry stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Licensing: Chief Engineer or Master Mariner (Unlimited) License issued by a recognized maritime authority.
  • Experience: At least 15 years of maritime experience, including a minimum of 2 years as Chief Engineer or Master, preferably on tankers.
  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and ISPS. Familiarity with classification societies and flag/port state control.
  • Surveying/Auditing Experience: Prior experience conducting vessel inspections, surveys, and audits is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction at all levels.
  • Analytical Abilities: Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform onboard inspections, including climbing, confined space entry, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.
  • Work Authorization: Full legal authorization to work in the USA.
