Job summary

Serco Inc. in Virginia is seeking a Senior Marine Electrician to support U.S. Navy shipboard electrical systems, cabling, and C5ISR installations at Norfolk and Newport News.

The role requires at least 8 years of relevant experience, an active DoD Secret clearance, and the ability to obtain various certifications. Work involves test, assembly, and on-site shipyard tasks with safety as priority.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
• Ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS) and pass Background Investigation and Drug Screening.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain certifications.
• Familiarization with NAVSEA concepts in electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
• Ability to work in high heat spaces and climb shipyard stairs/ladders.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to push/pull up to 40 pounds for much of shift.
• Attention to safety and respirator qualification.

Responsibilities

• Receive instructions and perform work independently, with troubleshooting as needed.
• Conduct tests and measurements using standard equipment and record data.
• Assemble components, subunits, or simple models and adapt equipment.
• Maintain engineering data records and perform basic calculations.

Serco is hiring a Senior Marine Electrician to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings of Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques. You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In the role, you will:

• Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.

• Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.

• Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as: Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment.

• Gather and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.

• Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data.

• Rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and you will typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A High School Diploma

• An active DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

• The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a Background Investigation and Drug Screening.

• A minimum 8 years of revelant experience

• The ablility to obtain certifications

• Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation

• The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking,

• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift (while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.

• Attention to safety

• The ability to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift

• The ability and be willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites around the area

• The ability to work in various shipyard in Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia

Additional desired experience and skills:

• Shipboard experience highly preferred

• An OSHA 10 certification

• Fiber Optic certifications

• Multi-pin certifications

Salary range: The hourly amount for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This role is covered by the Service Contract Act.For positions on this contract, we will pay the prevailing wage rate for the location in which the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD). The wage rate will vary depending on the locality.
