Position Description

If you love engaging in high-profile projects supporting the U.S Navy and our U.S Naval Ships, Serco has a great opportunity for you! Serco is hiring a Senior Marine Electrician to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US Navy located in the beautiful surroundings of Newport News, Virginia.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.

You play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In this role, you will:

  1. Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; perform recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
  2. Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  3. Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapting standard equipment.
  4. Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.
  5. Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data.
  6. Rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and you will typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  1. A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  3. The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
  4. The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
  5. The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
  6. A minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical work in a related field.
  7. A minimum of 8 years of Shipboard experience.
  8. Experience managing a crew of various trades (6-10 people).
  9. A combination of experience in the following areas:
    1. Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors.
    2. Read drawings (Tradesman level).
    3. QCI instruct of lower techs.
    4. Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP.
    5. Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts.
    6. Multipin competent.
    7. Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing.
    8. Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge.
    9. Reading drawings (Apprentice level).
    10. Band/pack MCTs/RISE.
    11. Layout & mount small equipment as needed.
    12. Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter.
    13. Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus.
  10. Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
  11. The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  12. Attention to safety, which is critical.
  13. The ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  1. An active DoD Secret clearance.
  2. An OSHA Certification.
  3. Fiber optic certification.
