Job summary

Mesabi Metallics seeks a Marine & Barge Logistics Manager to own Great Lakes and inland barge transportation strategy, interfaces with carriers and terminals, and lead marine negotiations while ensuring reliable movement of products. You will align capacity with shipment needs, monitor performance, and drive seasonal and contingency plans.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will manage capacity, nominations, laycans, and pricing, while coordinating with S&OP and the Logistics

Qualifications

• 7+ years of marine, barge, vessel, or bulk commodity logistics experience.
• Knowledge of marine transportation, charters/COAs, laycans, demurrage/despatch, and terminal operations.
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving and carrier/terminal relationship-management skills.
• Analytical, organizational and communication abilities to manage multiple movements.
• Ability to travel and respond to time-sensitive logistics issues.

Responsibilities

• Own relationships with Great Lakes and inland barge carriers, terminals, vessel operators and agents.
• Manage marine contracts, charters/COAs, rates, service terms and related negotiations.
• Plan barge and vessel capacity, nominations, laycans and shipment windows.
• Coordinate operating interfaces across Great Lakes, Gulf, river and Quebec routes.
• Monitor demurrage/despatch exposure, loading windows, service performance and contingencies.
• Provide marine feasibility, capacity, routing and timing inputs to the S&OP process.
• Work with Logistics Partner to monitor active movements and follow-up actions.
• Track marine KPIs, delivery performance, cost trends and issues.
• Review marine invoices and documentation discrepancies.
• Develop forward capacity plans and contingency strategies.
