Job summary

SMB Recruiting is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer in Pleasanton, CA to lead calibration and end-of-line testing for LiDAR systems. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams and global CM/EMS partners to ensure production readiness and deployment‑readiness for high‑volume manufacturing.

The role requires hands-on experience with automated test systems, lab equipment, and strong data analysis skills to drive yield improvements and process robustness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • 8+ years in manufacturing or test engineering.
  • Hands-on with automated test systems and lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Own calibration and end‑of‑line test processes for LiDAR systems.
  • Set up and improve production test stations and fixtures.
  • Execute tests during NPI, pilots, and volume production.
  • Troubleshoot failures and drive root-cause analysis.
  • Partner with CM/EMS and cross‑functional teams for readiness.
  • Drive yield, test robustness, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain test docs and engineering change records.
  • Participate in DFT/DFM reviews to improve manufacturability.

Responsibilities
  • Own and support calibration and end‑of‑line (EOL) test processes for our LiDAR systems and subassemblies.
  • Set up, validate, maintain, and improve production test stations, fixtures, and supporting processes.
  • Execute test and calibration procedures during NPI, pilot builds, and volume production.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and manufacturing issues and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Partner with CM/EMS providers and cross‑functional teams including Systems, Hard- ware, Quality, Reliability, and Operations to support production readiness and ongoing manufacturing.
  • Drive yield improvement, test robustness, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing test operations.
  • Maintain test documentation, work instructions, and engineering change control records.
  • Participate in DFT and DFM reviews to improve manufacturability, test coverage, and product readiness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing, production test, or test engineering, ideally in optics, sensors, automotive electronics, or similarly complex hardware environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with automated test systems, lab instrumentation, and production fixturing.
  • Strong understanding of electro‑optical systems, lasers, photodetectors (including APD and SPAD), and optical fundamentals
  • Experience using data analysis and statistical methods to improve yield, reliability, and test performance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced production or manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to support builds and issue resolution at world wide CM/EMS partner sites as needed
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with LiDAR systems, optical sensors, or related electro‑optical products.
  • Familiarity with laser‑based systems, photodetectors, and optical alignment processes.
  • Exposure to automotive manufacturing, safety‑critical systems, or high‑reliability products.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers or EMS partners in a production
