Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Athens, GA is seeking an Assembly Support professional on 1st shift. You will assist manufacturing engineers and assembly leaders with design, tooling, documentation, and production sequencing on the plant floor.

The role requires CAD, SAP, and 3D software familiarity, plus strong communication and analytical skills. Training starts on 1st shift; overtime may be required. Benefits are included as listed.

Qualifications

  • Must have intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • 2-year degree or equivalent, or 2 years of related experience in Materials Operations, Packaging or Planning.
  • Willing to sit/stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create tool lists for assembly.
  • Provide tooling support to the line including: battery repair, DC electric and air-torque tooling.
  • Develop final work orders detailing steps and components.
  • Update standard work schedules based on engineering input.
  • Create documentation for capital expenditures and maintain budgets.
  • Apply Caterpillar Production System principles of 5S, CI ideas, waste elimination and standard work.
  • Use CAD system to develop production operation sequences.
  • Develop layouts and identify material locations.
  • Download tool data and provide torque data to Certification Team.
  • Utilize CAD, Bin System and Team Center systems.
  • Provide cross-functional communication and summaries to leadership.

As Assembly Support at Caterpillar Inc., you will directly support Manufacturing Engineers and Assembly Leaders on the plant floor through design and documentation layout, tooling, fixtures, handling systems, safety, and ergonomics and other duties as assigned.

This is a 1st shift hourly position starting at $28.05/hour

What you can look forward to doing in this role:
  • Create tool lists for assembly.
  • Provide tooling support to the line as needed including: battery repair, DC electric and air-torque tooling, preventative maintenance tools, and tooling calibration.
  • Develop final work orders which detail processing steps and procedures, identified component parts, specifies technical aspects of part installation or application and identifies tooling or fixtures required for production.
  • Perform changes and updates to standard work schedules and other relevant assembly procedures based on engineering input.
  • Create documentation required for capital - maintains both capital and expense budget accounts.
  • Follow and utilize Caterpillar Production System principles of 5S, Continuous Improvement Idea Reporting, Waste Elimination, and Standard Work.
  • Rely on independent decision-making and problem solving to complete job tasks.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Use Engineering prints and release notices to develop production operation sequence and documents in assembly routing system.
  • Develop layouts using CAD system and identifies material locations.
  • Download tool data and provides analyzed torque data to Certification Team and creates and maintains data files on torque tools specified by Certification Team.
  • Utilize systems such as CAD, Bin System, and Team Center.
  • Provide cross-functional communication to complete tasks.
  • Provide summaries to leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have intermediate proficiency (Basic skills/knowledge. Capable of functioning independently) in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 2-year degree or equivalent (Current enrollment in an accredited 4-year college degree program at a junior level status is considered equivalent to a 2-year degree) or 2 years of related experience in Materials Operations, Packaging or Planning
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs
Top candidates will also have:
  • Have intermediate proficiency (Basic skills/knowledge. Capable of functioning independently) in PowerPoint
  • Auto CAD experience
  • 4 yr. technical degree (i.e. Mfg. Technology, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Familiarity with complex product structures
  • Experience writing visual work instructions
  • Experience with 3D software
  • Experience with conducting time studies
  • Experience with line balancing
  • Operations/Industrial planning experience
  • Advanced Computer and Caterpillar Systems Knowledge
  • Mechanical/Assembly experience
  • Understanding of the Assembly Planning Systems

This is a 1st shift hourly position starting at $28.05/hour located in Athens, GA. No relocation benefits are available. Initial training will be on 1st shift or a split shift schedule for approximately 4 weeks.

1st Shift Schedule: *Monday-Thursday, 6 am - 4:30 pm

*Overtime as needed to support business needs.

Summary Pay Range:

$28.05 - $35.09
