Job summary

Ozinga is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Operations and Reliability Manager to oversee the vertical grinding mill and cement handling terminal at our East Chicago site. You will ensure safe, efficient, and reliable milling operations and drive production improvements while maintaining cement quality and process control.

Responsibilities include leading maintenance, coordinating outages, and mentoring staff, with a strong focus on safety and continuous improvement across cement plants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or chemical engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• 5-7 years of experience in plant management, cement manufacturing or similar heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience with automated control systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the vertical roller mill and cement handling.
• Analyze operational data to identify throughput, energy efficiency, and product quality improvements.
• Plan maintenance outages and coordinate contractors.
• Supervise operators and ensure adherence to SOPs.

Summary

The Senior Manufacturing Operations and Reliability Manager will oversee and manage the operation of a state-of-the-art vertical grinding mill and powder material handling terminal. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable performance of the milling process, optimize production rates, and maintain high-quality standards for cement output.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the vertical roller mill, ensuring optimal grinding performance and continuous production
• Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement in throughput, energy efficiency, and product quality
• Lead maintenance teams to schedule preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
• Work with the technical services team to monitor and maintain cement quality and consistency
• Supervise operations personnel and provide training to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures
• Enforce safety regulations and promote a culture of safety across all site activities
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Plan maintenance outages and coordinate maintenance contractors
• Provide support and consultation to other Ozinga cement sites as needed

Qualifications

Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or chemical engineering or equivalent industry experience

Experience

• 5-7 years of experience in plant management, cement manufacturing or similar heavy industrial sectors
• Experience with automated control systems

Working Conditions

• Office environment and industrial plant setting
• Work is performed in a cement plant environment with exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
• Availability for weekends and on-call duty as needed
• Local travel required
• Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
• Noise level is usually moderate but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion
• Personal protection equipment (hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection) required

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Walking, climbing, and standing on uneven, or muddy job sites in both daylight and after dark
• Frequent use of stairs, use of fall protection, operation of equipment (skid steer, manlift, loader, company truck), connecting hoses, sampling trucks & vessels, etc.
• Must be able to frequently bend
• Must be able to maneuver in and around plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary
• Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds several times a day
• Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment
