Job summary

Ozinga Materials Inc. is seeking a Facility Operator to oversee the safe, efficient operation of our vertical grinding mill and cement terminal in East Chicago, IN.

You will manage daily production, monitor equipment, maintain inventory accuracy, and ensure clean, safe work areas while interfacing with customers and stakeholders. Qualifications

• Experience operating cement grinding facility or similar facility.
• Experience in railroad operations preferred.
• Experience in bulk powder terminal preferred.
• Industrial work environment experience preferred.
• Equipment experience preferred (Manlift, skid steer, loader).

Responsibilities

• Operate vertical grinding mill and cement terminal daily.

Overview

Pay: $27.00 - $34.00 Hourly

Summary:

The Facility Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the state-of-the-art vertical grinding mill and cement terminal, ensuring high-quality production and outstanding customer satisfaction. Daily responsibilities include the proper operation, monitoring, and maintenance of milling and support equipment. The operator also maintains clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the facility. This role performs technical assessments related to material quality, maintains accurate inventory levels, and oversees all associated logistics and documentation. This position is responsible for the housekeeping of all responsible areas and equipment. The Facility Operator requires daily interaction with internal and external customers and stakeholders.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Daily operations of vertical grinding mill and cement terminal
• Clean and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment, bins, carts, and other containers; maintain equipment storage to ensure inventory is protected
• Coordination of logistics, scale ticketing, stockpile, and inventory management
• Operate mobile equipment as required
• Operate hand, power and specialized tools as required
• Troubleshoot machinery and equipment during both operational and non-operational periods
• Maintain records of work performed and parts replaced
• Perform routine material quality control tests and sampling procedures
• Ensure that all products/samples are labeled correctly and clearly
• Manage inventory and generate appropriate reports
• Perform visual inspection assessments of jobsite conditions, solutions, and recommendations to correct problems if they occur; maintain a safe jobsite and working conditions
• Mechanical and electrical maintenance on daily basis
• Ensure proper maintenance and operation of all equipment - fixed and mobile
• Maintain orderly site housekeeping/compliance with applicable standards
• Continuous improvement practices all tasks and duties
• 100% participation in company safety program

Qualifications

Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Knowledge of cement and concrete products preferred

Experience

• Experience operating cement grinding facility or similar facility preferred
• Experience in railroad operations preferred
• Experience in bulk powder terminal preferred
• Industrial work environment experience preferred
• Equipment experience preferred (Manlift, skid steer, loader)

Working Conditions

• Operation within a fast-paced environment
• High heat environment, confined space entry, possible gas exposure, heavy industrial environment
• Exposure to plant environment with dust, noise, and varying temperatures
• Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires hearing protection
• Personal protective equipment (hearing protection, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall protection, powered air purifying respirators, etc.) required
• Working at heights with exposure to elements
• Commitment to safety protocols and OSHA standards in industrial settings

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• Walking, climbing and standing on uneven, muddy or frozen job sites in both daylight and after dark
• Frequent use of stairs, use of fall protection, operation of equipment (AEWP, manlift, company truck), connecting hoses, sampling trucks
• Must be able to frequently bend to obtain samplesAbility to perform maintenance duties in tight spaces
• Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment
• Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary
• Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times a day
• Lifting and carrying tools and/or product, connecting hoses to the truck, often on difficult terrain
