Job summary

LHH is seeking a highly analytical Unit Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for a manufacturing-focused business unit. The role emphasizes integrity of financial reporting, driving performance through insights, and partnering with operations and executive leadership.

The position oversees standard costing, cost accounting, working capital management, audits, and staff development, with a focus on continuous improvement and actionable financial strategies to support growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience leading accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls.
  • Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all accounting activities, including general ledger management, account reconciliations, and period-end close processes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate annual audits and support external reporting requests.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor accounting staff while promoting operational excellence and professional growth.
  • Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
  • Manage the standard costing environment, including cost roll updates, labor and overhead allocations, and bill of material reviews.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances related to materials, labor, production efficiency, scrap, overhead, and purchasing activity.
  • Provide financial insights into product profitability, margin performance, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Partner with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to drive operational improvements and optimize manufacturing performance.
  • Support pricing, sourcing, and operational decisions through detailed cost analysis.
  • Oversee inventory valuation processes and ensure accurate inventory accounting.
  • Lead cycle count programs, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Review excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor inventory turnover and working capital metrics to improve cash flow and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to enhance inventory controls and utilization.
  • Provide leadership for accounts payable operations, ensuring timely processing of invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments.
  • Monitor payables activity, aging reports, and accruals to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, collections, credit management, and cash application functions.
  • Analyze collection performance, aging trends, and Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) metrics.
  • Ensure adequate reserve methodologies and adherence to accounting policies related to receivables and credit risk.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the business unit.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, and long-term planning assumptions.
  • Evaluate capital investments through ROI, payback, and financial impact analysis.
  • Track capital spending against approved plans and ensure proper accounting treatment for fixed assets.
  • Provide financial guidance and recommendations to support growth initiatives and operational investments.
