Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Foley, AL is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead cross-functional efforts to improve producibility and implement robotics and automation in our on-site facility.

You will analyze FPY, OEE, and CI opportunities, shape tooling layouts, and collaborate with quality and EH&S to ensure compliant, efficient manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Typical requirements: a STEM degree and 5+ years of experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting specifications, engineering drawings and models.
  • Experience adapting equipment or tooling design to factory and production conditions.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools.
  • Experience with CAD design software.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve producibility of designs and processes.
  • Implement process technology upgrades with robotics and automation.
  • Support continuous improvement events across business processes and leadership levels.
  • Assist in tooling and machine layout design with the production team.
  • Identify opportunities on drawings to influence engineering changes for manufacturability.
  • Participate in tool design reviews to reduce build times and costs.
  • Use data analytics to analyze FPY, productivity, and OEE targets and improvements.
  • Ensure manufacturing sequences comply with EH&S and Quality requirements.
  • Drive corrective actions and improvement initiatives (OEE, FPY, escapes).
  • Collaborate with Quality on PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Participate in digital manufacturing initiatives with SME support.

Job description

Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Foley, AL. The position is onsite at our Foley, AL facility. Relocation assistance may be available.

U.S. citizenship is required for access to classified information.

What You Will Do
  • Work cross‑functionally with stress, design, electrical, materials, and process engineers to improve product design to achieve maximum producibility
  • Implement process technology upgrades by applying various engineering applications such as robotics and automation
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) events across all business processes and with all levels of leadership
  • Support design and arrangement of tooling and machines of the manufacturing process (layout) in collaboration with the production team
  • Identify opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs that improve product manufacturing and producibility
  • Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during fabrication
  • Use advanced data analytics to analyze First Pass Yield (FPY), productivity and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets and improvements
  • Ensure sequence on manufacturing process and product builds complies with EH&S and Quality requirements
  • Drive problem‑solving initiatives and challenge status quo (Corrective Action Investigations, OEE, FPY and Customer escapes)
  • Work cross‑functionally with Quality, participating and contributing to PFMEA and Control Plans
  • Participate in digital manufacturing initiatives with support from Digital Subject Matter Experts (SME)
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typical requirements: a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting specifications, engineering drawings and models
  • Experience adapting equipment or tooling design to factory and production conditions
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools
  • Experience with CAD design software
  • U.S. citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in robotics and automation
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Red X ACE or CORE
  • Experience with CATIA or other CAD systems
  • Experience with 3D printing
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Shop Environment
  • Understanding of Project Management methods
