Job summary

Cummins Inc. in York, SC is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead safety-centered process design for the CDBS location. You will guide cross-functional teams in applying machine-safety standards across facilities and projects.

You will interpret drawings, select compliant equipment, and drive data-led manufacturing improvements while advancing safeguarding solutions. Strong regulatory knowledge and hands-on leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a practical understanding of machinery operation grounding safety decisions in sound engineering principles.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience leading machine safeguarding programs including risk assessments and safety-function evaluations.
• Functional Safety Engineer certification (CSME or TÜV) to validate expertise in machinery functional safety requirements.
• Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation control systems with ability to read complex schematics.
• Working knowledge of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and ISO 13849-1/2, IEC 62061, ISO 12100, and relevant ANSI/ISO regulations.
• Familiarity with safeguarding technologies—interlocks, presence-sensing devices, safety relays, safety PLCs, safety-rated drives/servos, and safety valves.

• Communicate complex safety concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Champion health and safety to support an injury-free workplace culture.
• Interpret product and equipment drawings to design manufacturing processes meeting specifications.
• Select manufacturing equipment aligned with Cummins standards and project needs.
• Drive data-led design using digital modeling and simulation to improve processes.
• Document standardized procedures to ensure consistency across stakeholders.
• Lead root-cause analyses for machine-safety incidents and drive corrective actions.
