Job summary

Leonardo DRS, Germantown, MD, is seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to develop, optimize, and improve manufacturing operations for radar and legacy avionics products. You will implement standard work, improve layouts, and support production readiness with Lean and Industrial Engineering methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related technical discipline
• Five years of relevant engineering experience; aerospace/defense manufacturing experience preferred
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs
• Knowledge of GD&T and 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks or equivalent)
• Familiarity with ERP systems, BOM management, routers, and work instructions
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for new and existing products, including mechanical and electro‑mechanical assembly, test, and system integration
• Create and maintain manufacturing plans, work instructions, routers, standard work, process documentation, and production process plans
• Support production on‑floor by troubleshooting issues, dispositioning nonconforming material, leading root‑cause investigations, and implementing corrective actions
• Partner with Quality Engineering on First Article Inspection activities and control plans
• Lead process‑improvement initiatives focused on yield, takt time, throughput, and labor efficiency
• Develop productivity measures and track plant KPIs
• Design and improve workstation layouts and material flow to optimize ergonomics and productivity
• Coordinate and monitor production‑area relocations or layout changes to improve productivity and quality
