Job summary

Anduril Industries in North Carolina is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the Anduril Composites group in Morrisville. You will work hands-on with technicians and engineers to advance composite design, tooling, and manufacturability from prototype through production.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering, 5+ years of experience in composite manufacturing, and ability to read engineering drawings (GD&T). On-site work in Morrisville and eligibility for U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technology related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in composite manufacturing within a development environment.
  • Experience with multiple composite manufacturing processes (e.g., filament winding, autoclave processing, VARTM, prepregs, hydraulic press).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (NX preferred).
  • Experience with MS Office and/or project management software.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills with concrete examples.
  • Onsite in Morrisville, NC; ability to obtain/maintain TS clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Work hands-on with technicians and other engineers to design and manufacture composite parts from Group 1 UAVs to XL-UAV.
  • Shape product design decisions to improve manufacturability before design release.
  • Lead initial builds of composite components and tooling with cross-functional teams.
  • Create, review and release manufacturing docs (MBOMs, work instructions, quality plans).
  • Facilitate communication between engineering data packages and shop floor to align fabrication with design.
  • Identify and solve manufacturing problems under schedule and spec constraints to ensure quality.
  • Develop processes to reduce risk as products move from prototype to full production (LRIP to FRP).
  • Drive corrective actions with quality to remove production blockers.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril’s Manufacturing team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team to support Anduril Composites branch in North Carolina. This Manufacturing Team is responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge composite parts and assemblies for numerous business lines across Anduril. This role encompasses everything in the manufacturing value-chain, including, but not limited to, MBOM Management, Work Instruction creation, Design for Manufacturability work, work cell optimization, tool design & selection, process creation & optimization, vendor sourcing & interaction, quality planning, and work documentation associated with the composite and metallic structures.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building novel designs of anything between a Group 1 UAVs to an XL-UAV with a focus on appropriate composite design and manufacturing methods in mind
  • Own the shaping of novel products that are in the initial design phase to guide decision points that enable higher level of manufacturability prior to initial design release
  • Drive the initial builds of composite components and tooling in close conjunction with other cross functional teams (Design, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain, etc)
  • Create, review, and release manufacturing documentation, such as work instructions, MBOMs, quality plans, inspection requirements, non-conformances to align with overarching facility and program objectives
  • Shape communication lines for cross functional alignment. ie communication between the engineering technical data packages and the technicians to ensure composite hardware and tooling are manufactured as designed/analyzed
  • Identify and solve manufacturing problems in schedule-driven environment under the constraints of detailed specifications and requirements to achieve the needed quality, delivered on schedule
  • Identify, shape, and develop manufacturing processes to lower risk as the product moves from its prototype/LRIP phase into FRP
  • Drive RCCAs alongside the quality team to eliminate production blockers and recurring issues
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technology related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field of composite manufacturing in a development environment
  • Experience in multiple composite manufacturing processes including (but not limited to): filament winding, autoclave processing, VARTM, prepregs, and hydraulic press processing
  • A genuine interest in manufacturing and thirst for learning
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (NX preferred)
  • Experience with MS Office and/or project management software skills
  • Demonstrated in-kind or direct team leadership skills, with backing examples
  • Ability to be onsite, local to Morrisville, NC
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, automotive, and/or energetics facilities
  • Experience working within a AS9100/NADCAP accredited manufacturing facility
  • Proficiency in TeamCenter for digital manufacturing processes
  • Experience leading a team of engineers that interface with different IPTs (Manufacturing Ops, Design, Supply Chain, etc)
  • Experience in bonded and/or fastened assemblies of composite, metallic and plastic components
  • Understanding of CNC Machining operation and limitations – 5-axis routers, lathes, mills, etc

US Salary Range

$113,000—$149,000 USD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
