Job summary

Ondas Sentinel in Tucson, AZ seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive manufacturing execution system spanning electrical, mechanical, soft goods fabrication, assembly and refurbishment. Qualifications

  • 8+ years of manufacturing, design or test engineering experience with resource, schedule and budget responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced cross-functional environment and meet deadlines.
  • 3D CAD modeling skills required; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficiency in conceptual inline planning and standing up new automated assembly lines.
  • Strong knowledge of power subsystems and converter design.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and evaluates production methods to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Works with manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain and partners to reduce costs and implement improvements.
  • Optimizes product flow by planning workflow, space, ergonomics and layout.
  • Manages design, fabrication, assembly, programming, debugging, validation of new equipment.
  • Ensures safety standards for equipment and workstations.
  • Supports machine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Supervises training and work instruction creation for new equipment.
  • Collaborates on design reviews, testing methods, QA studies, and process validation.
  • Provides manufacturing decision support with data analysis and reporting.

The Stratospheric ISR business unit within Ondas Sentinel is focused on one of the most unique mission areas in aerospace and defense: manufacturing and operating high‑altitude stratospheric balloon systems. Few companies in the world can do this work at operational scale. That means our teams are not simply maintaining existing systems; they are building new capabilities, solving first‑of‑their‑kind challenges, and helping define what persistent.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for aiding design, implementing and maintaining a manufacturing execution system consisting of electrical, mechanical, soft good fabrication, assembly, system integration, validation, and refurbishment activities. This position requires someone who is dynamic, driven, organized and detail oriented; excels in project management; communicates with ease at all levels; thrives in dynamic environments and is adept at facilitating actions and resolving production conflicts. As a member of the Product Engineering team, you will be a key voice for manufacturing and supply chain in developing the next generation platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitors and evaluates production methods to ensure adherence to product specifications and requirements.
  • Works closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, supply chain, and external partners to identify cost reduction opportunities, develop process improvements, resolve production issues, and implement cost‑effective equipment solutions.
  • Improves and optimizes product flow by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, workspace ergonomics, and equipment layout.
  • Manages internal and external design, fabrication, assembly, programming, debugging, implementation, and validation of new machinery and equipment improvements.
  • Ensures that equipment, machinery and workstations meet applicable safety standards.
  • Supports machine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Supervises training and work instruction creation for new equipment and processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality personnel to support design reviews, establish test methods, conduct QA studies, set standards, validate manufacturing processes, and ensure released drawings are clear and manufacturable.
  • Provides manufacturing decision support and prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing production, labor, material, schedule, quality, and trend data.
  • Maintains product and process database using appropriate software to enter and analyze data.
  • Positively reinforces and supports company policies, procedures and work practices.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned to support evolving business needs and company objectives.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications
  • BS/BA in related field
  • 8+ years of manufacturing, design or test engineering experience with responsibilities including resource management, schedule management, budget responsibility, supplier selection, and multidisciplinary team involvement.
  • 3D CAD modeling skills are required, SolidWorks experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in conceptual in‑line planning and standing up new automated assembly lines
  • Strong working knowledge of power subsystems and converter design and operation is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced cross‑functional environment, make quality decisions, and meet challenging deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Hands‑on experience with the automation of textile or plastics manufacturing
  • Knowledge of soft goods, patterning and heat‑sealing methods for thermoplastics
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing, 6‑Sigma, and DMAIC processes
  • Experience writing procedures and work instructions in an AS9100 environment
  • AutoCAD experience
