Job summary

AWS/CES is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for an automotive manufacturing client in Lansing, MI. This role focuses on process development, continuous improvement, equipment and automation, and new program launches.

You will lead APQP activities, develop PFMEAs, control plans, and coordinate PPAP submissions while mentoring junior staff. Strong Lean/Six Sigma background and automotive exposure are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Support new product launches from prototype through full production.
  • Create work instructions, process documentation, and SOPs.
  • Evaluate and improve methods, tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen initiatives and root cause analysis.
  • Analyze production data to improve efficiency and OEE.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Controls, and Production to resolve issues.
  • Participate in APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and PPAP submissions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and production staff.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in audits and implement corrective actions.

AWS/CES is looking for a Sr Manufacturing Engineer for our automotive manufacturing client

  • Location: Lansing, MI
  • Pay rate: $97,500 salary base + Benefits
  • Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Support new product launches from prototype through full production.
  • Design and implement manufacturing work instructions, process documentation, and standardized operating procedures.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods, tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
Process Improvement
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, minimize scrap, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to improve manufacturing performance.
Equipment & Automation
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Controls, and Production teams to troubleshoot equipment and improve process reliability.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process enhancements to support production goals.
New Program Launches
  • Participate in APQP activities and support successful product launches.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Coordinate equipment trials, process validation, and production readiness activities.
  • Support PPAP submissions and customer launch requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Support engineering changes and continuous process optimization.
  • Assist with capital equipment planning and implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and production personnel.
Quality & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements.
  • Promote a safe work environment while supporting environmental and safety initiatives.
  • Participate in audits and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of robotics, automation systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and industrial manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing data analysis tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
