Job summary

Movement Search and Delivery is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for Jackson, MI and Chesterfield, MI to improve processes and drive plant productivity. The role is hands-on on the plant floor and collaborates with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, Materials, and leadership.

You will lead PFMEAs/ECNs, support new product launches, and push Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs and downtime.

Qualifications

  • College degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline, or 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.
  • Experience with PFMEAs, ECNs, process documentation, and new product launches.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a regular presence on the production floor and provide hands‑on support.
  • Investigate problems and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Develop and implement plant layout, equipment, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Support Lean, Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate the introduction of new products and processes.
  • Participate in ECN process and ensure readiness before implementation.
  • Develop and update PFMEAs, operator instructions, and process documentation.
  • Coordinate with Production, Scheduling, Tooling, Quality, and Materials to minimize obsolete inventory.
  • Evaluate methods, ergonomics, safety, and equipment requirements.
  • Support procurement and fabrication of equipment for process improvements.
  • Assist in developing standard product costs.

Movement Search and Delivery is working with a well-established manufacturing company to identify and hire Manufacturing Engineers for Jackson, MI and Chesterfield, MI

About the Role:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for improving manufacturing processes, reducing costs, supporting new product launches, and increasing overall plant productivity.

This is a hands‑on engineering position with a strong presence on the manufacturing floor. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, Materials, and leadership to identify opportunities and implement solutions that improve safety, quality, cost, delivery, and efficiency.

What You Will Do:
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to existing and new manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a regular presence on the production floor, providing hands‑on engineering support to manufacturing operations.
  • Investigate manufacturing problems and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime, scrap, rejects, and operating costs.
  • Develop and implement plant layout, equipment, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement, Kaizen, Lean manufacturing, and productivity initiatives.
  • Coordinate the successful introduction of new products and manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process and ensure manufacturing readiness prior to implementation.
  • Develop and update PFMEAs, operator instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate with Production, Scheduling, Tooling, Quality, and Materials to minimize obsolete inventory and ensure products are manufactured to the correct engineering revision.
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods, ergonomics, safety, equipment requirements, and opportunities for automation or process improvements.
  • Support the procurement, design, and fabrication of equipment required for process improvements and new manufacturing programs.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard product costs.
  • Assist with evaluating and selecting suppliers for subcontracted manufacturing operations.
  • Support continuous improvement activities focused on improving quality, productivity, safety, and cost.
  • Work cross-functionally with Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, Materials, Shipping/Receiving, Finance, and senior management.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • College diploma or university degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, OR 5+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.
  • Experience with PFMEAs, ECNs, process documentation, and new product launches.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Experience identifying and implementing manufacturing cost reductions and productivity improvements.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Understanding of production reporting systems and MRP.
  • Ability to support equipment installation, process development, and plant layout improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and CAD software.
  • Experience working within automotive quality systems such as IATF 16949 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and manufacturing health, safety, and environmental requirements is beneficial.
