Forgent Power Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Manager, Inventory Cost Accountant to lead inventory costing processes, ensure accurate valuation, and provide insights into manufacturing costs.

The role collaborates with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and FP&A to maintain standard costs, analyze variances, and support month-end close. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise and the ability to translate cost data into actionable business insights, with 5+ years in cost/inventory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with cost accounting/inventory accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• CPA, CMA, or CPIM certification preferred
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor, or similar) required; cost module configuration a plus
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial modeling)
• Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal/external audits
• Demonstrated experience analyzing manufacturing variances and standard costing

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze financial reports, with a specific focus on inventory performance, valuation, and COGS.
• Lead and support the closing activities ensuring completeness and accuracy in reporting, including reconciliations, journal entries, and roll-forwards.
• Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods, including periodic updates and cost rollups.
• Perform monthly inventory valuation, reconciliation, and reporting across all inventory sub-ledgers and the general ledger.
• Analyze and explain purchase price variances (PPV), manufacturing variances, labor and overhead absorption, and scrap/yield variances.
• Lead or support monthly, quarterly, and annual physical inventory counts and cycle counts; investigate discrepancies.
• Lead 3rd party warehouse inventory reconciliation to align balances with internal reporting.
• Prepare journal entries related to inventory, COGS, and cost accruals as part of month-end close.
• Manage process of identifying, reporting, and disposing of excess/obsolete/slow-moving inventory; calculate reserves.
• Partner with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to evaluate cost drivers and opportunities for cost reduction.
• Assist with overhead allocation rate development and burden rate calculations.
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting related to inventory and COGS.
• Ensure SOX/compliance related controls; support audits.
• Identify and implement process/system improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
• Support ERP costing maintenance and system enhancement projects.
• Prepare ad hoc analyses for finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Assist auditors with inquiries and schedules to ensure audit-ready documentation.
• Mentor and guide junior accounting staff.
