Astec-Portland, based in Portland, is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist with 10+ years in the field to join our heavy fabrication team. The candidate will handle complex, large-scale projects and operate with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

The role requires deep expertise in manual machining, blueprint reading, GD&T, and metrology, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with a skilled crew in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a manual machinist, with 15+ years strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of rigging practices and safe operation of overhead cranes.
• Advanced ability to read/interpret blueprints, manufacturing processes and GD&T.
• Expert-level understanding of metrology and inspection tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of manual machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, reaming, boring, slotting, grinding and tapping.
• Rigorously follow all shop safety procedures and PPE usage.
• Rig, move, and position large/heavy parts using overhead cranes.
• Maintain and properly use shop tooling and equipment.
• Read, interpret and apply GD&T on blueprints.
• Inspect and verify dimensional accuracy with calipers, micrometers, indicators and profilometers.
• Communicate with team members and supervisors for efficient project execution.
