Job summary

Astec is seeking a Machinist (CNC/Manual) to program and operate CNC machining centers, performing drilling, tapping, milling, and other operations on heavy parts with tight tolerances. You will study blueprints, set up machines, and inspect outputs to ensure precision.

You will collaborate with engineers and production teams to resolve machining issues, follow safety protocols, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with recognized technical training credits.
• 0-2 years with heavy equipment production line CNC/Manual machining.
• Ability to work with diverse personalities and teams.
• Capable of efficient, accurate work to meet production requirements.
• Safe material handling of steel and related parts.
• Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to changing orders.

Responsibilities

• Operates multiple machine tools (grinders, drill presses, lathes) on moderate complexity machining.
• Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Performs correct machine adjustments and selects materials accordingly.
• Set up and lay out to print specifications.
• Monitors operations to detect defects or malfunctions and adjust as needed.
• Measures work piece dimensions to verify accuracy.
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from pieces.
• Performs minor maintenance such as oiling machines and tools.
• Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished work pieces.
• Completes related manufacturing paperwork and maintains PPE usage.
