Job summary

WEX is seeking a Senior Managing Counsel, Corporate Payments to lead a legal team supporting the Americas and to collaborate with Commercial, Product and Marketing teams. You will manage outside counsel and provide guidance on complex commercial transactions and payment-related regulatory matters.

The role requires 8+ years of legal experience, a U.S. license, and a track record in commercial agreements, product life cycle support, and team leadership.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• 8+ years of legal practice, ideally with in-house experience; licensed in at least one U.S. state.
• Significant experience in structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial transactions including financial services, digital payments, technology, and with the public sector.
• Experience in payments and/or financial services industries and related laws and regulations.
• Understanding of the product life cycle and ability to provide legal advice throughout the cycle.
• Experience in managing and supervising others.
• Familiarity with legal matter management systems and contract lifecycle management, and openness to AI tools in daily workflows.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem solving, analysis, and issue resolution; ability to handle complex issues and business metrics.
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
• Collaborative, self-starter, and continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of legal professionals supporting WEX Corporate Payments matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate customer and partner agreements including credit, technology integration, marketing, and services documents.
• Provide solution-oriented legal support throughout the product lifecycle and product terms development.
• Identify risks and guide the team in addressing them.
• Review marketing materials and press releases for Corporate Payments.
• Handle contractual queries and pre-litigation disputes with customers or partners.
• Improve processes, templates, and negotiation playbooks for efficiency.
• Build relationships with Corporate Payments executives and product, operations, risk, compliance, and finance stakeholders.
• Collaborate with other areas of the legal department to identify risks and provide guidance.
• Mentor and develop team members' skills and capabilities.
• Oversee outside counsel: engagement, instruction and work oversight.
• Provide commercially focused compliance advisories to internal stakeholders.
