Job summary

AVANGRID seeks a Senior Manager, Corporate Tax to lead tax planning across federal, state, and international issues while mentoring the tax team. You will partner with business units and senior management to deliver value-added tax guidance and drive strategic initiatives.

The role reports to the Director, Tax Planning, Audits and Risk Management and requires strong project management, leadership, and communication skills across global teams.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in corporate tax.
  • Renewable energy and regulated business experience preferred.
  • Meaningful contract review experience.
  • Partnership allocations and basis-related transactions experience.
  • M&A experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex tax planning initiatives with executive stakeholders.
  • Advise on renewable and utility income tax matters and coordinate with external counsel.
  • Evaluate opportunities and support financing and investing decisions.
  • Provide strategic tax support for entity structuring with partnerships and LLCs.
  • Lead due diligence for sales and acquisitions of assets and entities.
  • Develop memos on tax implications of investments and financing decisions.

The base salary range for this position depends upon experience and location:

  • $141,440 to $176,800 in Maine (ME)
  • $155,600 to $194,500 in Connecticut (CT)

Purpose

The Senior Manager, Corporate Tax is involved in highly confidential tax planning initiatives and participates in a wide range of federal, state, and international tax issues. This leader focuses on providing value‑added, quality tax information to internal and external customers while mentoring and developing Corporate and other tax team members. The individual has the background and experience to successfully manage projects and independently work with business units. This role reports to the Director, Tax Planning, Audits and Risk Management.

Responsibilities
  • Manage complex tax planning initiatives and collaborate with business units and executive management to implement recommendations and actions.
  • Serve as tax planning advisor for renewable and utility income tax matters, leading communication with external tax counsel on topics such as all relevant OB3 provisions.
  • Evaluate business opportunities and global strategic initiatives through documentation analysis to support financing and investing decisions.
  • Provide strategic tax support to Corporate Development for entity and organization structuring heavily weighted with partnerships and LLCs.
  • Offer authoritative support as a subject matter expert on federal prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements for all relevant projects.
  • Perform technical tax research and analysis on various issues.
  • Compose memos that identify the tax implications of potential business investment, divestment, and financing decisions as part of management’s investment decision review process.
  • Manage tax development monitoring, communication, and management engagement on business‑relevant topics.
  • Lead due diligence for sales and acquisitions of assets and entities.
  • Respond to audit information data requests.
  • Furnish recommendations on global tax and transfer pricing issues, including review of inter‑group financing arrangements and support of annual U.S. transfer price study.
  • Assist with tax capacity forecasts and valuation allowance analyses, including support of technical tax matters that impact deductions, credits, and cash flow timing.

Skills and Requirements

  • Experience with international tax issues, including transfer pricing, foreign parented structures, and cross‑border transactions

  • Proficiency in tax research tools, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
Experience and Training
  • 10+ years of relevant experience required
  • Substantial experience in renewable energy and some regulated business experience preferred
  • Meaningful contract review experience
  • Partnership allocation and basis‑related transaction experience
  • M&A experience needed
Education

B.S. in Accounting, Finance or J.D. required, with Master of Science in Taxation (MST) or Master of Law (LLM) as relevant.
